From Forgotten NY:
The MTA is running a trainset of R1/R9 cars on the 6th Avenue Line on Saturdays during the holiday season. I have a number of interior and exterior shots but will try to get a few more before doing a lengthier FNY page.
Here’s the schedule if you want to catch one:
The Holiday Special R 1/9 train will run on Saturdays this year from Nov. 26 through Dec. 24. The trains will leave Second Ave. at 9:58 a.m., 11:37 a.m., 12:57 p.m., 2:27 p.m. and 3:57 p.m. and make local stops to Queens Plaza. Planned departure times from Queens Plaza are 10:43 a.m., 12:13 p.m., 1:42 p.m., 3:13 p.m. and 4:43 p.m.
So most independent movie theatres are having a rough go of it of late. Not in Wburg- just blocks from my home this new treasure, Nitehawk Cinema has opened. So excited to watch lots more films! Bonus you can get an ice cream sundae while you escape.
I went to the DUMBO Art Walk yesterday - which happens every First Thursday. It made me so happy to be around young art (well at least better than my experience with Bushwick Open Studios). Also DUMBO is an incredible personal landmark for me. When I was 12 & 13 I took a photo 101 class and our first assignment was to photograph the Brooklyn Bridge from DUMBO. A pile of scrappy Brooklynite tweens learning how to use a 35mm with the dramatic background of a skyline, cobble stone, brick, a bridge and a sunset. Not too bad, eh?
Anyways I fell in love with the work of Andew D. Moeller, a NY based artist…His paintings were architectural (the ones from the show not shown here) and were part of a show based on “summer in NYC” - imagine this type of painting showing the whole side of a building with 100s of identical Air Conditioners. Felt very real - and the attention to detail in his technique is mind blowing. My new art crush! I commend Smack Mellon for this group show.
Heading to Brooklyn Flea today where my friend hawks Ginger Syrup. Supposedly there will be Tarot card reading too.
A Museum Guide leads a free tour of The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago.
What I think I will do this weekend??!!!
